今日も行って参りました、石垣島のダイビングショップのスタッフが中心になってのオニヒトデ退治です。サンゴを食べ荒らすことで知られているオニヒトデですが、今年はそのオニヒトデの大発生が特に危惧されております。海水温が上がりオニヒトデが大量な卵を海中にばらまく前に何とか手を打とうと集中的にオニヒトデの駆除を行っております。
Volunteer divers, mainly from diving service staffs in our Ishigaki island, got rid of Crown of thorns starfish today. Crown of thorns starfish that is well-known as a pest eating up corals, may irrupt this year. So we conducted the disinfestation intensively.

サンゴに共生している褐虫藻の光合成によるもの、またサンゴ自体の炭酸カルシュウムの骨格形成によるものなど二酸化炭素の吸収役としても注目を集めているサンゴ礁。そのサンゴ礁を守ることは、地球温暖化対策にもきっと通じるのではないでしょうか。
Nowadays coral reefs are taken notice as a role consuming carbon dioxide by photosynthesis by zooxanthera living in corals or building up calcium carbonate bodies. Conservation of coral reefs, it also means our action against global warming.
